Sculptures in Wood
Over the years, Pudding River Studios has worked with a variety of wood species. Through our own process and personal experience we have found old growth Redwood stumps to be the superior wood for indoor/outdoor wood carvings. The reasons for this are longevity, stability and color / grain composition.
In the future, all sculpture that Pudding River Wood Carving Studio creates will be carved from excavated old growth redwood stumps. These redwoods are from the Northern California Costal Region as remnants of past logging enterprises dating from the 1880’s through the 1950’s. Generally we know the particulars concerning a wood piece that comes through our studio.
General Details
At the Pudding River Studios we enjoy the mass and beauty of wood in and of itself. Consequently, we do not do small sculptures with our sitting Buddha statues start at 24” (24 inches) up to 10 ‘ (10 feet) in height. The smallest Kwan Yin begins 40” (40 inches) and can be made up to 12’ (12 feet) in height.
All of our images are single pieces of redwood without joints, glue, bolts, etc. This makes it all one solid piece of beautiful wood with a Buddha or Kwan Yin image revealed in the carving process.
